Privacy Policy

GreekNerds (“we,” “us,” or “our”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, with whom we share it, and what rights you have regarding your information when you use the GreekNerds website at greeknerds.com (the “Site”). By using the Site, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Account Information

When you create an account, we collect:

  • Email address — used for authentication and transactional communications.
  • Display name — the username or handle you choose, displayed publicly alongside your reviews.

1.2 Optional Profile Information

You may choose to provide additional profile fields, including:

  • School or university
  • Greek affiliation status
  • Graduation year

These fields are optional. Providing more information helps us contextualize reviews and improve the platform, but you are not required to fill them in.

1.3 Reviews and User Content

When you submit a review or other content, we store the content you provide along with metadata such as the date of submission, your account identifier, and the chapter or organization reviewed.

1.4 Server Logs

Our servers automatically record standard log data when you access the Site, including:

  • IP address
  • Browser user agent string
  • HTTP referrer (the page you came from)
  • Pages requested and timestamps

Server logs are retained for approximately 90 days and are used primarily for security, debugging, and abuse prevention.

1.5 Vercel Analytics

The Site uses Vercel Analytics, which collects aggregate, anonymized data about page traffic (such as page views and referrers). Vercel Analytics does not track individual users across sessions, does not use cookies for analytics, and does not create individual user profiles. We receive only aggregated statistics.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Operate the Site. Display your reviews and profile, process submissions, and manage your account.
  • Send authentication emails. We send magic links, password reset emails, and other transactional messages necessary to let you access your account. We do not send marketing emails.
  • Automated content moderation. We analyze submitted content for potential violations of our Community Guidelines and Terms of Service using automated systems before or after publication.
  • Improve the platform. Aggregate usage data helps us understand how the Site is used and where we can improve the experience.
  • Prevent abuse. Server logs and account data help us detect and prevent spam, fake reviews, and other prohibited conduct.
  • Comply with legal obligations. We may process or retain data as required by applicable law.

3. What We Do Not Do

GreekNerds does not:

  • Sell your data. We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties for any purpose.
  • Serve advertisements. The Site currently displays no advertising. We do not use your data for ad targeting.
  • Use third-party ad tracking. We do not embed Facebook Pixel, Google Ads tags, or any other third-party advertising tracker on the Site.
  • Share data with third parties for their own use. We share your data only with the service processors listed in Section 4, solely to operate the Site on our behalf.

4. Data Processors

We use the following third-party service providers to operate the Site. Each acts as a data processor on our behalf, processing only the data necessary to provide their service, and is contractually prohibited from using your data for their own purposes:

Supabase

Purpose: Database and authentication infrastructure.
Data stored: Account email, display name, profile fields, reviews, and related metadata.
Hosting: United States.
Privacy: supabase.com/privacy

Vercel

Purpose: Web hosting and content delivery network (CDN).
Data processed: All web traffic passes through Vercel’s infrastructure; server log data is processed by Vercel.
Privacy: vercel.com/legal/privacy-policy

Resend

Purpose: Transactional email delivery for authentication and account-related messages.
Data processed: Your email address and the content of transactional emails (e.g., login links).
Privacy: resend.com/legal/privacy-policy

5. Data Retention

  • Account data and reviews are retained until you request deletion of your account. Upon a verified deletion request sent to help@greeknerds.com, we will delete or anonymize your personal information within a reasonable timeframe. Note that anonymized review data (stripped of all identifying information) may be retained to preserve the integrity of chapter scores.
  • Server logs are retained for approximately 90 days, after which they are deleted or rotated automatically.

6. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the following rights regarding your personal information:

  • Access. You may request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
  • Correction. You may request that we correct inaccurate information. Many profile fields can be updated directly through your account settings.
  • Deletion. You may request deletion of your account and associated personal information. See Section 5 for details.
  • Export. You may request an export of the reviews you have submitted to the Site. We will provide this in a machine-readable format upon verified request.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at help@greeknerds.com. We will respond within a reasonable timeframe. We may need to verify your identity before processing your request.

7. Cookies

GreekNerds uses cookies only for the following purpose:

  • Authentication session cookies. When you log in, a secure session cookie is set to keep you authenticated across page loads. This cookie is essential to the functioning of the Site and is not used for tracking.

We do not use:

  • Tracking or analytics cookies
  • Third-party advertising cookies
  • Cross-site tracking cookies

You may configure your browser to block or delete cookies, but doing so will prevent you from staying logged in to your account.

8. Children’s Privacy

The Site is not intended for, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from, children under the age of 13. If you are under 13, do not use the Site or submit any personal information. If we become aware that we have inadvertently collected personal information from a child under 13, we will take steps to delete that information promptly. 9. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect the information we collect from unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. These measures include encrypted connections (HTTPS), secure authentication infrastructure (Supabase), and access controls. However, no method of transmission over the internet or method of electronic storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the “Effective date” at the top of this page and, where reasonably practicable, notify registered users by email. Your continued use of the Site after any change constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
